    IMMIGRANT, 1632

A BIOGRAPHY OF HANNAH PONTUS CHURCHILL, by Laurence Overmire (9th great grandson), genealogist and family historian, updated September 2020:

Hannah Pontus was born about 1624, possibly in England or in Leiden, Holland. She was the daughter of Leiden Separatists William Pontus and Wybra Hansen. Hannah probably immigrated with her parents in 1632.

She was the daughter of Leiden Separatists William Pontus and Wybra Hansen. Hannah probably immigrated with her parents in 1632.

Hannah's mother Wybra may have been from Austerfield, England, like the Bradfords and the Mortons. Governor William Bradford's mother was a Hansen. Apparently, Wybra had custody of William Bradford's son John in Holland, while Bradford was in Plymouth.

Hannah married immigrant John Churchill on December 18, 1644, in Plymouth. They made their home at Hob's Hole.

Hannah and John had 6 children:
    1) Joseph (b. 1647, m. Sarah Hicks)
    2) Hannah (b. 12 Nov. 1649, m. John Drew)
    3) Eleazer (b. 20 Apr. 1652, m. Mary _______, Mary Doty)
    4) Mary (b. 1 Aug. 1654, m. Thomas Doty)
    5) John (1657-1723, m. Rebecca Delano)

Hannah's husband John died young, about 43 years of age, on January 1, 1663, in Plymouth. She married a second time to Giles Rickard as his second wife. He died in 1685.

Hannah passed away on December 22, 1690, in Hob's Hole, aged 67.
